| Overlooking the Smokey Mountains from the Clingmans Dome lookout tower on border between Tennessee and North Carolina. At 6643 feet, it is the highest peak in the Smokey Mountains and Tennessee's highest point. The dead trees in front are Fraser Firs which only grow at the highest elevations of the Smokey Mounties. In the last 30 years, over 70% of them have been killed by an infestation of balsam wholly adelgids. |
